RISE RETREAT 2008 :: RECAP

October 27, 2008

Our Elevate Film team documents the entire weekend on motion and still camera. After the last session of the retreat, which this year it was Saturday at 11:45pm, we choose a couple of student testimonies that best represent what happened during the retreat and ask these students to speak on film. From there we go to our portable studio and start editing. This year we started editing at 1:30am. We edit through the night because we show the Recap video later that morning at our 3 Sunday services.

WHY DO WE DO THIS?
We have been doing this process for 4 years and it is very impactful for the parents of the students and the students that go on the retreat. We invite parents to attend a service to watch the video and pick up their students. This gives the parents an better understanding of what their student just went through the last 2 days and it gives the students a really cool video to show their friends. Most students when asked how there weekend was would answer “It was fun!” When parents see the video they know it was much more than just fun! It was an experience.

RISE RETREAT ILL. FILM

This film is an Illustration of how much noise students face during there day. God is always speaking to us, the question is are we able to silence the noise of the day and listen?

FRIGHT NIGHT

October 17, 2008

Because Halloween is just around the corner we wanted to talk about spiritual darkness and how real it is. The Bible clearly tells us that our battle is not against flesh but against spiritual forces.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. -Ephesians 6:12

Knowledge is power! We can not call on God’s power if we do not know what it contains. That is why we read the Bible.

There will be a shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the storm and the rain. -Isaiah 4:6

ELEVATE GOES TO MATAMOROS

October 13, 2008

For me, going to Matamoros Mexico was not just a fun-filled summer adventure. It was a life changing journey. Little did I know, as I stepped into the van that would take me across the border, that my life as I knew it would never be the same. When I was in Matamoros, I formed some of the greatest friendships and bonds that I know will last forever! I stepped out past my comfort zone, attempting to communicate with others in Spanish and praying for

people I didn’t know. I came face to face with real lives that could only be healed and changed by Jesus. There is truly nothing more amazing than telling others about Jesus.  To see the look on the people’s faces when you gave them something as simple as a toiletry pack, or just simply prayed for them was amazing. Knowing that God used you to touch someone else’s life is so rewarding. There’s really no greater feeling than to know that you’re doing what God called us all to do – to preach the gospel.
